Any tip that will make your iPhone run faster is a valuable one to keep under your belt. When you notice your device lagging and it isn’t the usual suspects (like a battery that truly is years old or over using battery-consuming apps like Facebook), it’s worth your time to try a few tech expert-approved hacks that will speed up your phone in minutes. Here are four things you didn’t know you could do to make your iPhone run like brand new.

Keep Software Updated

We know how annoying it is to stop everything you’re doing during the day and update your software, which requires that your phone shut down for a few minutes. But continuing to use old software just slows your phone down, while newer software upgrades often contain repairs to bugs and issues that aren’t serving you. Apple will usually let you know when a new software update is available (and you can always opt to run this while you sleep), but you can also check on the status by going to Settings — Software Update — General to make sure you’re running the latest version.

Delete Old Apps

A little Spring cleaning of old apps is a great idea to keep your phone running like new. Take stock of your apps once in a while and delete any that you never use. Some to keep your eye on include games, which slow down your device and battery, social media apps, and news and shopping apps that you might be able to access via your browser instead to conserve energy.

Delete Messages And Clear Cookies

Apps aren’t the only battery-draining culprits. From time to time, you should also delete old iMessages and even notes. And don’t forget to clear the cache from your iPhone by going to Settings — Safari — Clear Cookies and Data.

Use ‘Battery Doctor’

The Battery Doctor is a free app that will provide you with updates on how and why your phone’s battery is depleting so that you can make adjustments in how you’re using your device. It lets you see the current state of your battery percentage and will let you know which files are clogging up your phone so that you can simply get rid of them with one tap. Downloading this app and checking it regularly are among the easiest things you can do to keep track of your battery health before it gets to be a problem.
