The Grim Reaper has returned to Netflix, and its scythe has struck down 5 shows on the streamer in the past month.

Netflix Originals Hard CellSnowflake MountainWelcome to EdenSky High: The Series, and In Love All Over Again were all officially cancelled in July of 2023. The cancellation news comes soon after Netflix’s announcement that, starting September 29th, the service would be stopping its DVD rental business after 25 years, perhaps the biggest “cancellation” of all.

Netflix's 'Hard Cell'

Hard Cell

Lead actress of Hard Cell Catherine Tate, known for comedic appearances on Doctor Who and the U.S. version of The Office, revealed on a BBC Breakfast show that Hard Cell had been cancelled, and apparently since the person who had commissioned the show for Netflix had left the company, she hadn't been told directly of the show's axing. Yikes!

Hard Cell debuted in 2022, and featured Tate in a variety of roles as characters at a prison during the mockumentary-style show.

Netflix's

Snowflake Mountain

The aptly-named Snowflake Mountain was a reality show following a group of young Britons transported to the wilderness of the U.K.'s Lake District without any amenities in the hopes of making it to the end of the competition to win a cash prize of $50,000. Unfortunately for Netflix, the show failed to hit the numbers reached by other unscripted series like Too Hot to Handle, which was also produced by the same company, and was canceled soon after its debut in late June of this year.

Netflix's 'Welcome to Eden'

Welcome to Eden

This Spanish science fiction series centered around a group of young adults attending a party on a remote island, but the seeming paradise that surrounds them soon reveals a series of dangerous secrets and entrapments. Its second season debuted in April 2023, but drew in significantly less viewers than its first season, ultimately leading to its cancellation. Unfortunately for fans, this means the series leaves off on a few gigantic cliffhangers that apparently will now go unresolved.

Netflix's 'Sky High: The Series'

Sky High: The Series

Interestingly due to the series' name, this show was not a televised version of the popular Disney film from the mid-aughts, Sky High. Instead, this Spanish-language thriller functioned as a prequel to the original crime film Sky High, released on Netflix Spain in 2020. It doesn't seem that the new story was well-received by fans, however, and Netflix recently confirmed it will not be returning for a second season. Sky High: The Series starred Money Heist lead Miguel Herrán.

Netflix's 'In Love All Over Again'

In Love All Over Again

Netflix Spain viewers certainly had a difficult July: a 3rd Spanish-language series was axed by the streamer in the guise of In Love All Over Again, whose first season had been released in February of this year. In Love All Over Again followed Irene and Julio, a couple with an on-again, off-again relationship searching for their happy ending. The steamy college-set series apparently failed to retain many viewers, and is officially not returning for a Season 2.
