There are a few common ways your Apple ID can be stolen — or “hacked.” If your device has been stolen or was lost or you’ve used your Apple ID on another account that has been hacked, these are two top ways you may find your own information compromised. Hackers can also send you an email with a phishing link and hope that you click on it so that they can obtain your information.

No matter how it happens, the most important thing of all is that you are able to figure out it has happened and rectify the situation. And that can only be possible if you’re aware of some common signs that your Apple ID has been compromised. Here are six giveaways that Apple experts says can alert you to the fact that your Apple ID has been hacked.

Apple Emails You

If you’ve received an email from Apple letting you know that someone else has logged into your account from a new device, it’s time to do a little investigative work. If that wasn’t you signing on from a different device, it could be a hacker who has access to your info.

Nothing Works

Your Apple ID should always work, unless you make a change to it yourself. If it suddenly stops working, this is a sign that your ID has been compromised.

Your iCloud Contains Unfamiliar Files

Your iCloud and phone should only ever have files saved to it that you yourself saved. If you’re noticing unfamiliar files, photos, and messages in your iCloud or stored on your device, it could be a hacker.

Weird Receipts

Don’t ignore weird receipts from Apple for charges you didn’t make. Even if the charge is $1, this is often how hackers begin racking up expenses under your name and account.

Your Account Details Have Changed

Suddenly, your name is no longer on your account. Or maybe even your address has been changed. It may feel like you’ve entered the Twilight Zone — and chances are your device has been hacked.

Your Password Has Been Changed

One final, very obvious sign that your Apple ID has been stolen is that your password has been changed.

It’s important that you try and regain control of your account. You can contact Apple directly or, on a borrowed device, download and open the Apple Support app. Tap Reset Password > A different Apple ID >Continue. From here, you will be instructed on how to reset your account.
