Snapchat

According to Zachary Harper, owner and CEO of Turbo Speed Networks LLC,"Battery life is always a challenge in our ultra-connected, always [on-the-go] lifestyle. There are many iPhone apps that can use a significant amount of battery. Apps that use the most battery generally have three things in common: they require the screen to stay on, use GPS location services, and make significant use of cellular data."

Snapchat happens to tick all those boxes. Olivia Tan, a tech expert and co-founder of Cocofax, suggests you avoid using this app because "the notification service will keep your phone busy and use up all its battery power." She adds, “Snapchat also uses location services to give its users real-time information about where they are at the moment. [It] is a camera app with chat and video story features. That is the main reason why it takes so much battery power.”

Tan advises, "You can also tell Snapchat that you don’t want the app to use your location services." That way, you get to preserve your phone's power. "Turn off any app notifications that aren't necessary. This will help you save battery life, especially when waking up [and the screen sends] notifications that you don’t want to see," she notes.

Tech Expert and writer Arman Mardhani of Technographx.com agrees and mentions that the location services are to blame for decreasing power. "The location feature runs in the background for continuously checking the location. Turn off your location when you are not using Snapchat to save your battery from draining," he explains.

So the next time you bring out your phone for a quick social media life update, keep this in mind. Now you know which one to avoid!
