3 Battery-Draining Apps Tech Experts Say You Should Delete Immediately

When your iPhone battery refuses to hold a charge for very long, and you’re sure that the culprit isn’t the battery itself, it’s time to investigate and turn your attention to the apps that you use most often, as well as those that are running in the background. Some apps are simply more taxing on your battery because they DO more. If your phone is otherwise in good shape and relatively new, don’t rush off to the Apple store or replace the battery just yet. Try deleting these three battery-draining apps first to see if it makes a difference.
Snapchat“Consider Snapchat the application that never sleeps,” says Michael Hess, eCommerce Strategy Lead at Code Signing Store. “Even while the photo and video-sharing software is quite entertaining and offers a novel way to send messages that will self-destruct in seconds, it is one of the worst battery drainers available. Snapchat is one of those terrible apps that disregards the battery life of your phone. The notification service will consume your phone’s battery and keep it busy.”
William Drow, product manager at Starlinkhow, adds that researchers from companies including cell carriers, Avast, and AVG, as well as IT fans, help identify the programs that consume the most battery power — and Snapchat is high up on the list. “According to each survey conducted to date, this social media app uses the most battery life,” Drow says. “Avast put Snapchat at #4 and AVG at #2 on their lists. After removing Snapchat, several users just on the XDA Developers forum reported a big energy gain.”
Streaming Apps“It seems sensible that those apps would drain a lot of power if you choose to stream all of your movies and music from services like YouTube, Netflix, and others,” Drow says. “After all, they are utilizing Wi-Fi or information, and if you are streaming video, your screen is always on.”
Not to mention the fact that you can easily get wrapped up in watching one show, which turns into two shows, and then five shows. By the time you’ve finished binge-watching your favorite sitcom your battery may have dwindled down significantly.
The Weather App And Gaming AppsAny app that you really aren’t using and is just taking up space on your phone needs to go — and that advice goes double for many gaming apps, which take up a significant amount of battery power. But did you know that the weather app is one of the most battery-consuming apps on your phone? One way to reduce the battery it takes up is by turning off severe weather notifications. Go to notifications within the app and toggle off Severe Weather.
