Detoxing isn’t just about sipping on green juice or cutting out alcohol and junk food—it can also involve giving your body a little extra support with the right supplements. When your system is overloaded with toxins, it can slow down everything from digestion to metabolism, making it harder to shed unwanted pounds. That’s where detox supplements come in. The right ones can help support your liver (your body’s main detox organ), reduce inflammation, and flush out waste more efficiently—all of which can contribute to better digestion, higher energy levels, and, ultimately, weight loss.
Of course, not all detox supplements are created equal. Some are ineffective, overhyped, or even harmful if taken without care (We’re looking at you, detox teas!). But we checked in with experts to learn about a few options that could actually bring lasting benefits. According to Jordan Dorn, holistic nutritionist and co-founder of Zuma Nutrition and Jay Cowin, registered nutritionist and ASYSTEM Director of Formulation, ginger, milk thistle, and turmeric are all good choices. Learn more about the detoxifying benefits of each below.
1. Ginger Root
Ginger is one of the best anti-inflammatory ingredients for weight loss—so why not take it in supplement form? Ginger is a “health powerhouse,” Cowin says, with “many amazing health benefits that can help free the body from nasty toxins.” He says ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to reduce pain and inflammation in the body—and help you drop pounds faster. “Additionally, ginger has been shown to be helpful in treating nausea and vomiting, as well as helping to improve digestion,” Cowin points out. Ginger is also a great source of antioxidants, which can help to protect the body from damage caused by free radicals, making this another great supplement choice!

2. Turmeric
When it comes to inflammation-fighting spices for detoxification and weight loss, it doesn't get much better than turmeric—so a turmeric supplement is a great idea. Turmeric is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that help build the immune system to fight against viral diseases, Cowin explains. “It also improves memory, reduces joint pain, and lowers the risk of heart disease,” he continues, saying that according to new research, “curcumin's antioxidant properties may help improve liver health by functioning as a detox agent in the body.”
We'll definitely be adding a turmeric supplement to our cart now—and whipping up some golden milk, too.
