One commenter, trying to understand what the mix-up could possibly have been, asked the original poster "So you asked for a bacon cheese burger on the sourdough bread?" The OP responded, "Nope just a regular bacon cheeseburger with extra onions." Unfortunately it seems OP didn't receive much of anything they ordered, as there were no onions to be seen on the strange sandwich concoction.
A responder theorized, "My best guess is they are trying to get rid of the melt bread… the melt promotion ended so stores with extra bread are SUPPOSED to throw it out…. Might be a cheap franchisee who wanted to just use it up." Somehow, this possibility is even more unappealing than originally thought possible.
Other Burger King Items Criticized By Social Media Fans
The "mystery sandwich" wasn't the only Burger King item criticized on social media as of late. Burger King customers recently reported having stomach issues due to the chain's new Chicken Fries:
One responder to the "warning" did reason, “They’re good when fresh...They used to be delicious but since they came back they haven’t been as good for a couple reasons. I swear the breading is different and of course they stopped using the tasty fatty oil."
Someone on Twitter also chimed in, writing about the chain’s new spicy version of the Chicken Fries: "man these spicy chicken fries from Burger King was straight trash I was expecting Wendy’s spicy nuggets type s—t." Other Twitter fans seemed to really like the chain’s new spicier Chicken Fries, with someone explaining that they couldn’t find them at their local BK restaurant: "@BurgerKing what gives? Why spicy chicken fries in the commercials but not at the restaurant???” Another agreed, writing, “@BurgerKing How is it seriously possible that a store literally never had the spicy chicken fries the entire time they were available!!??"
According to Burger King, it seems the Spicy Chicken Fries were originally intended to only be offered as a "limited-time offering," available from March 6th through May 14th this year. However, those that did enjoy them felt "blindsided" by this news, while those who disliked them certainly felt vindicated.
The fast food chain's newest summer items added to menus were the Fiery Nuggets and Frozen Fanta Kickin' Mango drink.
