When your iPhone battery refuses to hold a charge, it’s time to get serious about your settings. Some of them are draining your device — more than you probably know. And all of them can be adjusted so that your phone uses up far less battery power each day. But making these changes will require a little bit of know-how and a little bit of time (don’t worry, it’s still minimal). And while it’s always possible that your phone actually requires a brand new battery and a trip to the Apple store, before you report to spending money, Sophie Fennell, a tech head with a computer science degree who is a tech writer at www.salestq.com.au, says you should change this screen setting — and several others — because it’s draining your iPhone battery.
Auto-Brightness
Is your iPhone as bright as the sun? Do you really need all of that illumination to get your tasks done? Chances are you don’t and can adjust the brightness of your iPhone screen so that it doesn’t drain your battery. Many experts agree that turning off auto-brightness should be your first step toward conserving battery power. “To turn off Auto-Brightness, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Auto-Brightness, and toggle the switch to the off position,” Fennell says.
Raise to Wake
This feature can cause your iPhone screen to turn on unnecessarily and drain your battery if your phone is constantly being raised and lowered, Fennell says. To turn off Raise to Wake, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Raise to Wake, and toggle the switch to the off position.
Background App Refresh
There are few reasons why you’ll need all of your apps to refresh their content in the background — and this feature is a major drain on your battery because it uses up resources unnecessarily. To turn off Background App Refresh, Fennell says to go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh, and toggle the switch to the off position.
True Tone
“This feature can adjust the color temperature of your iPhone screen based on the ambient lighting conditions, which can drain your battery by constantly adjusting the color temperature,” Fennell adds. “To turn off True Tone, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > True Tone, and toggle the switch to the off position.”
Location Services
Creepy and a drain to your battery? Turn it off. “This feature can allow apps to access your location data and drain your battery if too many apps are using it at once,” Fennell says. “To conserve battery life, turn off location access for apps that you don’t use or need location data for by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and disabling location access for specific apps.”
You can conserve your iPhone’s battery life and extend your usage times between charges just by turning off these settings, Fennell recommends — and it will take just a few minutes of your time today to get it done.
