Using social media apps can be a fantastic distraction, but it can also be a real drain on your iPhone. Not only can they drastically reduce battery power, but they can take up a ton of space on your device. Your best solution may not be to delete Snapchat, Facebook, or Instagram, but you can take steps to reduce the impact these apps have on your device. Tech expert Daniela Sawyer, founder of FindPeopleFast, says you need to change this social media setting ASAP — it can save so much space on your iPhone.

Back up your photos and videos and delete them.

Most of your favorite social media apps rely on you taking and sharing numerous photos and videos, but storing them forever is the action that will clog up your phone’s storage. You can find out how much space photos and recordings take up on your phone by opening the Settings app > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Memory management in Breakpoint location settings, according to Sawyer.

Turn off “Keep Photos Normal” while taking pics on social media.

Another strategy to prevent the Camera app from consuming extra space is to disable the setting that causes copied photos to remain on your iPhone in HDR, Sawyer notes. “Unsurprisingly, your iPhone settings are set to ‘Keep Photos Normal’ in the HDR area, and this allows you to reliably save discovered photos regardless of the HDR structure,” Sawyer says. “Turning this off will essentially preserve the HDR type of the photo. You can change this setting by going to the Settings app > Photos & Camera > Scroll down to the stand that says HDR (High Dynamic Range).”

Delete Podcasts You've Completed.

Another space-saving strategy is to delete web accounts you've completed, Sawyer notes. "Assuming you download modernized video streams, you'll soon find it off-limits," Sawyer says. "You can see which webcasts are downloaded to your iPhone by going to the Settings app > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage under Storage > Podcasts. Then at this point, you can delete the web accounts by tapping the Edit and delete button."
