Another day, another chance to make yet another iPhone mistake that could be draining your battery, sapping your data, and yes, even slowly “killing” your iPhone.
But the more you know about your phone and the habits that can harm it, the better equipped you are to maintain your device for the long haul. Payette Forward created a video to put 17 things that can kill your iPhone on blast.
Here are a few of the things you might be doing that can negatively impact your phone.
Exposing your Phone To Extreme Temperatures
Your iPhone works best within a certain moderate temperature range, and extreme cold or heat can cause permanent damage. Of the two extremes though, heat is far worse for your battery. Cold temps can temporarily drain your battery, but heat is a killer. Make sure you never leave your device in a hot car, especially if it is on a charger, and cover it up if you’re somewhere in direct sunlight.
Using a Non-Apple Charger
There are plenty of chargers on the market these days that claim they are super fast, but that also aren’t Apple certified. And what that could mean is that they aren’t equipped to handle your Apple phone, specifically, which could prove problematic when it comes to your battery. Stick with Apple-certified chargers or those you purchase directly through Apple. As efficient as a fast charger can seem, it’s also capable of ruining your phone if it’s not compatible with the device.
Not Lowering Your Screen Brightness
If you think that incredibly bright iPhone screen isn’t damaging your battery, think again. Simply keeping your screen on its ultimate brightness setting could be using up 85 percent more power than if you kept it on the lowest screen brightness. To change your setting go to Settings > Display & Brightness and manually toggle the setting down. You can also choose Night Shift, which forces your screen’s brightness to dim between certain hours.
Using Damaged Cables Or Chargers
While the previous mistakes will definitely prove damaging to your iPhone’s battery, this one could really destroy your phone and even cause a fire: never, ever use damaged cables or chargers. Doing so can cause electric shock and damage to your iPhone and other property. For this reason, it’s a smart idea to regularly check cables for signs of damage such as fraying and discoloration.
Save your battery — and your phone — by rectifying these common iPhone mistakes ASAP.
