Gone are the days of fast food being a cheap, convenient meal option. In recent years, fast food consumers have continually voiced frustration over rising prices and shrinking portion sizes. There’s no denying that inflation is impacting nearly every aspect of the economy, and that includes your favorite drive-thru. Some chains are subtly reducing the sizes of menu items without adjusting their labels, a phenomenon (which even has its own subreddit) referred to as “shrinkflation.” This tactic, which allows businesses to keep prices steady while offering smaller portions, has not gone unnoticed. Many customers have taken to social media platforms to air their grievances, pointing out that they’re paying more for less.

Take a TikTok video posted @ohheykatarzyna (also known as Katarzyna), for example, where she shares her experience with a surprisingly small coffee order from Wendy’s.

TikToker complains about shrinking drink size at Wendy’s

In Katarzyna’s video, she expresses disbelief over the size of her Wendy’s coffee Frostyccino, claiming that what she received as a “medium” looks more like a small drink. “I have a question about Wendy’s,” she starts. “I got a medium. Does this look like a medium?” she asks, holding the cup up for viewers to see. The size of the cup, filled with ice, clearly didn’t meet her expectations for a medium drink. “It’s supposed to be a Frostyccino. And I’m like, this is a medium? I have small hands.”

Katarzyna goes on to describe her conversation with the Wendy’s employee, who confirmed that the drink she received was, in fact, a medium. “Well then damn, you guys definitely shrunk down your sizes because I can drink this in like two seconds, especially with the ice! Oh my god!” she exclaims, visibly frustrated.

“So over inflation,” she wrote in text over the video. The caption reads, “Everyone getting scammed out here.”

“That looks so freaking small lol,” one followers agreed in the comments.

Many agree that fast food chains seem to be shrinking their portion sizes while maintaining or even increasing their prices. This isn’t the first time customers have pointed out what they perceive as downsizing, particularly when it comes to drinks filled with ice.

As the cost of living continues to rise, so does dissatisfaction among fast food customers who feel like they’re getting less bang for their buck. Your move, Wendy's!
