There are plenty of mistakes you can make on your iPhone that lead to rapid battery drainage or that take up tons of storage space and leave little room for you to use your phone in the way you want. These mistakes can be rectified by changing settings and apps (and deleting certain apps, as well) and your phone will usually go back to normal. But what about the mistakes you could be making that are actually dangerous to your device and surroundings?
The reality is: there is not too much you can do to cause this great a risk. But most of the worst mistakes you can make involve improperly charging your phone. To keep your phone and yourself safe, make sure you avoid these two dangerous iPhone mistakes you probably didn’t even know you were making. Here’s why they are risky.
1. Charging Your Phone While It’s Wet
If your phone gets really wet, you already have a problem — perhaps not a dangerous one, but a problem nonetheless. It’s important to try and dry your phone as best as possible, and this means allowing the charging port to dry out as well. The one thing you should never, ever do is charge your phone while it’s wet. Similarly, using a wet charging cable or adapter can result in electric shocks and short circuiting. Only charge your device when it and its accessories are completely dry.
2. Using Damaged Cables
The moment you notice your phone’s cable is frayed is the moment you should replace it. Damaged cables and adapters can be fire risks or can lead to electric shocks and electrical shortages. Periodically give your iPhone accessories a once-over to make sure they are in good condition. When replacing them, look for Apple-certified charging cables and chargers. These will meet important safety standards for your iPhone and reduce the risk of overheating and electrical shorts.
