After much anticipation for the spooky series, Wednesday quickly won the hearts of viewers and skyrocketed to the top of Netflix charts when it finally hit the streaming platform in November of 2022. Jenna Ortega’s version of this beloved character, based off of the lovably dark teenager in the Adams Family, won the hearts of millions (and even spurred her own fashion movement).
Now, there’s one question on everyone’s mind: When will get to see season 2? And more importantly, will there even be a season 2? Shows are being canceled left and right on Netflix, and fans are worried Wednesday might be next after Netflix sold MGM Studio to Amazon. However, it seems the instant classic is safe from cancelation. Read on for all of the info.
Netflix sells production company to Amazon
Back in the spring of 2022, Netflix sold MGM Studios (which happens to be Wednesday's production company) for a whopping $8.5 billion, as Deadline reported. Now, Amazon owns the rights to all of MGM's series, including Wednesday. For this reason, fans are concerned that Wednesday may not stream on Netflix anymore, but will switch to Amazon Prime Video instead. This can be worrisome for those who don't want to pay for both platforms (especially considering the fact that even Prime members are getting fed up with the service and their cancelations).
However, we have good news: It's unlikely that Wednesday will be pulled from Netflix.
Wednesday is not canceled
Don't stress, Wednesday fans! There is currently no evidence that the series will be pulled from Netflix. In fact, Amazon stated that they don't intend to make MGM content exclusive to their streaming platform, which means it's likely that we can still look forward to watching season 2 on Netflix—along with these other great movies.
