In an interview given to radio host John Fredericks on the July 28th episode of The John Fredericks Show, former president Donald Trump confessed that one of the hardest parts about his many legal issues lately has been telling his wife, Melania.
“It’s always unpleasant when you have to go in and tell your wife that, ‘By the way, tomorrow sometime I’m going to be indicted,” he said on the radio show. “And she says, ‘For what?’ And I say, ‘I have no idea. I have absolutely no idea.”
The ex president has been indicted in 3 different cases—regarding the January 6th insurrection, classified documents, and alleged hush money payments—and is also being investigated for 2020 election interference in Georgia, as well as facing charges relating to alleged widespread fraud at his company.
Donald Trump Currently Faces 3 Separate Indictments
As his legal issues are stacking up, it's no wonder that Donald Trump has been finding it harder and harder to go to Melania to tell her about new developments—and new indictments. Trump has been arraigned in 2 separate investigations: he was arrested and charged in April in connection with alleged hush money payments made to porn actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election, and then was arraigned again in Florida on charges of mishandling classified information that was unlawfully retained at his resort home of Mar-a-Lago after his time as president. In fact, prosecutors claim that Trump violated the Espionage Act a whopping 31 times, lying to the FBI along the way.
The former head of the Republican Party also received a superseding indictment in relation to the aforementioned Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, introducing new charges of obstruction of justice and willful retention of classified documents to the other 37 counts mounted against him. The new charges were brought against him after evidence came to light that the former president had attempted to delete surveillance footage from Mar-a-Lago to thwart the FBI's investigation.
Staffers Claim Trump 'Reserves Fear' For Melania Trump
According to Trump staffers past and present, while "The Donald" seems blasé about most of the outside world's opinions of him, he does fear Melania's reactions to what he does. In testimony given on November 28th to the House panel investigating the January 6th riots, former Trump White House senior aide Kellyanne Conway said that the former Apprentice host only really fears Melania. "He reserves...he listens to many of us, but he reserves fear for one person, Melania Trump," Conway said to the committee's investigators.
Per an excerpt from a recent biography about the former First Lady, The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump, reporter for the Washington Post Mary Jordan also wrote that Donald took 2 hours to prepare before facing Melania after the infamous "Grab her by the p----" Access Hollywood tape was leaked during the 2016 election. Not hard to understand, considering that Melania had been 3 months pregnant with their son, Barron, when the tape was made in September 2005. The excerpt detailed, "Trump was quiet. [Former NJ governor Chris] Christie knew what Trump was dreading: facing Melania. 'She was the elephant not in the room,' Christie said. Trump was so embarrassed that, as one person in the room recalled, 'He turned red; red was coming up his neck to his ears. I think he understood early on that it was going to create ramifications for him at home, too.'"
