Last week, Trader Joe’s recalled its popular frozen Organic Acai Bowls due to possible plastic contamination. This popular item, which returned in December 2024, features a base of acai purée blended with strawberries, blueberries, and bananas, topped with a mix of granola, coconut, chia, flax seeds, and quinoa flakes.

As fans know, you can usually find these bowls in the freezer section at the cult-favorite grocery chain‘s locations. On February 14th, the Monrovia, California-based company briefly announced the recall on its website.

Trader Joe’s Pulls Frozen Organic Acai Bowls From Shelves Amid Plastic Contamination Concerns

The statement read: "Out of an abundance of caution, please discard any Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls, as the product may contain foreign material (plastic), or return them to your neighborhood Trader Joe’s store for a full refund."

The announcement lacked further details, such as which specific lots were impacted, the UPC codes, or the sell-by dates. Nevertheless, a discussion on Reddit revealed that these frozen breakfast bowls have recently made a comeback, having returned just a few months ago. Additionally, they are now being manufactured by a different company.

In the thread, one user described the bowls as "amazing" as another added, "at my store it’s in the frozen breakfast items section." Someone else wrote, "I didn’t even know these were “new”, just thought the product had returned after not seeing it for a while." An additional user replied, " It looks like they changed the recipe."

If you have any Organic Acai Bowls stored in your freezer, it is crucial that you refrain from eating them, no matter when they were bought. These items should be thrown away or taken back to Trader Joe’s for a complete reimbursement.
