Although no adverse reactions have been linked to these products yet, it's important to take recalls seriously. The FSIS describes E. coli as "a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps 2-8 days (3-4 days, on average) after exposure the organism." Potential complications include kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Older adults and children under 5-years old are at the highest risk.
If you are in possession of any of these products, the FSIS urges you to refrain from eating them. Instead, you should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
Staying on top of recalls like this is a crucial part of keeping your family safe and healthy. Other recent recalls include Powerade containing foreign metal objects and mislabeled candy. Stay safe!
