Most people usually visualize sugar, chocolate, and fat when they hear the word dessert. While this is normal, did you know that some healthier options can potentially help your gut health and be a good source of protein?
Many health and wellness creators, along with doctors, shared some surprising and simple gut-healthy desserts they recommend for those that want to keep their gut in check, boost their protein intake, and satisfy their cravings!
Read on to discover six unique dessert recipes that won’t leave you feeling guilty.
When you think of whipped chocolate mousse, you don’t necessarily associate it with gut health or protein. But what if you replaced high-fat ingredients with high-protein, gut-healthy ones instead, like yogurt?
Bethany (@lilsipper), who has over 487K followers on the TikTok and shares healthy recipes, posted her high-protein chocolate mousse recipe that won’t derail your weight loss plans.
The recipe is pretty simple and requires “absolutely no sugar!”
First, Bethany says to bloom your gelatin. In a blender, add Greek yogurt, cocoa powder, and the gelatin. Blend those together until smooth and creamy, then pour it into a glass cup. After refrigerating for 2 hours, you can top it off with extra cocoa powder to make it “extra fancy,” Bethany says.
Robert Love, a neuroscientist who has over 2.3M followers on TikTok, calls these treats the “world’s healthiest desserts”: Black Rice, Chocolate Almond Butter Pudding, Organic Decaf Coffee With Collagen Peptides.
He says that these desserts “are so good for the brain and for the body,” adding in his caption that “polyphenols are great for your gut bacteria; what is good for your gut is good for the brain.” He notes that these three desserts are rich in polyphenols and also contain “zero refined sugars.”
Ice cream is a beloved treat, but if we’re being honest, it can wreck your gut health, especially if you’re lactose intolerant. To avoid that uncomfortable indigestion, Sylvia (@animalbasedtaste_) recently shared her go-to gut-healing ice cream: raw milk ice cream.
The recipe is quite simple: Sylvia adds 1 and a half cup of whole raw milk into a large blender. “Do not use any low-fat dairy for this recipe; just trust me,” she notes.
Next, she pours in two cups of low-temp pasteurized heavy cream, followed by half a cup of raw honey. After that, she adds six egg yolks but saves the whites for another day. She recommends using high-quality eggs that are from pasteurized birds or purchasing your eggs from a local farm to reduce your chances of getting sick from salmonella.
Next, add two teaspoons of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
Finally, you want to blend and get a “beautiful pastel yellow color.”
Sylvia says, “This is what real vanilla ice cream is supposed to look like.”
She uses her Ninja Cream to turn it into ice cream, but states that you can also use a baking tray and keep bringing all the content of the ice cream to the center of the tray every 30 minutes until it’s completely frozen!
You might be wondering how this is good for your gut. Unlike traditional ice cream that’s loaded with processed dairy and added sugars, raw milk ice cream comes from unprocessed ice cream that is packed with probiotics and good bacteria.
Raw milk is also known to have enzymes that help break down lactose, which makes it perfect for those that are lactose intolerant.
