How many more times can you keep getting that pop-up that lets you know you’re totally out of storage and need to act ASAP? It can feel like your phone is being held hostage (which, it is in a way) and like you have to come up with five to 10 fast solutions to clear up storage by midnight.

But what if your low storage problems didn’t have to be so dramatic?

You can free up tons of space by deleting a few apps that aren’t necessary (and changing the way you approach a few that you might not be willing to part ways with). Tech experts say these four “useless” apps can be deleted ASAP to clear up storage.

But before we dive into specific apps, it’s important to note that apps are actually NOT the number one culprit behind your loss of storage.

According to this informative video, most storage problems are the result of videos, photos, music, games, and then apps. Depending on your personal iPhone habits, you may have to turn your focus to gaming apps, for example, and less on social media. Head to Settings > General > iPhone Storage to assess what is most responsible for your storage issues. With that said, these apps can either be deleted or adjusted to help save you storage space.

TikTok

Before you protest, don’t worry: you won’t actually have to delete TikTok forever. But this pick is a notorious app for consuming substantial storage space due to its cache, high-quality video content, temporary files, and downloaded content, says Tech Expert Johan Alexander, the CEO of APKCima. And, he adds, with the passage of time, this accumulation can take up a significant chunk of a device’s storage capacity, leading to slower performance and reduced available space for essential apps and data. Because of this, there is a better way to free up space while keeping TikTok around.

To reclaim storage occupied by TikTok, Alexander says users of smartphones can follow these simple steps:

Clear Cache and Data: “Within the app's settings, users can find options to clear cache and data,” Alexander says. “Removing cached files and unnecessary data can free up a substantial amount of storage.”

Delete Unnecessary Downloads: “TikTok might store downloaded content like videos,” Alexander notes. “Deleting these files, especially those that are no longer needed, can create more space.”

Reinstall or Delete the App: “If the app isn't used frequently or isn't essential, uninstalling it entirely might be the best solution,” Alexander says. “If it's needed occasionally, users can consider reinstalling it when necessary to save storage space when not in use. It is pertinent that the TikTok app is not only consuming device storage but also users' previous time as well. Users of this app expand a lot of their time scrolling videos in this app which ultimately become a primary reason for to increase in cache volume.”

Keynote

The average user uses Keynote for presentations in the Mac, but Keynote usage on iPhone isn't that common, as it more difficult to edit and isn't that convenient, says Joan Ferre Cid at Julian's Tech.

“If you don't use it you don't need it installed, as the apps take up space,” Cid says. In other words: Keynote is a good app to think of uninstalling to save storage space.

 iMovie

“Most people don't use iMovie on iPhone as it's used more frequently on computers,” Cid says. “The app can be deleted and reinstalled if you need to use it for something. This app is a bit storage-consuming because it has to pack all the effects and transitions inside.”

GarageBand

Unless you want to play with instruments and try out making music, Cid says this app is not that important and is a candidate for being deleted. “Its sounds, instruments and effects waste space if you're not using it, so deleting it can improve storage space,” Cid says.

Consider deleting these apps or changing the way you use them to gain back valuable storage space.
