Is there one app (or more than one app) that continually freezes and crashes when you’re using it? If this problem sounds familiar, there are common culprits that are to blame, as well as great tips on how to keep your apps from crashing and causing myriad frustrations. Tech Expert Michael Collins, the managing director of SphereIT.UK, says these four occurrences are often to blame for causing your favorite apps to come crashing down. He also offers simple solutions for taking care of the issue.
Outdated software:
If your iPhone’s software is outdated, it could be causing apps to crash. “Apple regularly releases software updates that include bug fixes and performance improvements,” Collins says. “To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.”
Low memory:
“If your iPhone is low on memory, it could be causing apps to crash,” Collins says. “To free up memory, close any apps that you’re not using and delete any unused apps. You can also delete photos, videos, and other files that you don’t need.”
Corrupted data:
Corrupted data is one of the top reasons your app keeps crashing. “To try to fix this, force quit the app and then restart your iPhone,” Collins says. “If the app is still crashing, you can delete and reinstall the app.”
Hardware issue:
Don’t neglect the importance of your iPhone hardware — if it’s damaged, it could be causing apps to crash. And if you’ve tried all of the above and your apps are still crashing, you might need to take your iPhone to an Apple Store for repair, Collins adds.
Prevention Tips
Prevention is often the best course of action to keep your phone working well and keep apps from crashing. Here’s what Collins recommends:
*** Keep your iPhone's software up to date: Apple regularly releases software updates that include bug fixes and performance improvements. To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
*** Close apps that you're not using: When you're finished using an app, close it by swiping it up from the bottom of the screen. This will free up memory and help to prevent apps from crashing.
*** Delete unused apps: If you have apps that you don't use, delete them. This will free up space on your iPhone and help to prevent apps from crashing.
*** Backup your iPhone regularly: If your iPhone's hardware is damaged and you need to have it repaired, you'll need to back up your iPhone before you send it in. This way, you won't lose any of your data.
