You may already be well aware of how the Location Services setting on your iPhone can have an impact on your privacy and security. When Locations is allowed to run constantly for all of the apps that ask permission to access it, you put your data at greater risk of being shared by third-party advertisers who would love to profit from it. This data is used to better target you with advertisements that might appeal based on your locations (which contain information about your likes and dislikes, as well as your needs).

But, according to one tech expert, there’s a secret iPhone location setting you may even be aware of that can compromise your security. Here’s what you need to know about this setting and how to turn it off.

Photos Store Your Location

Every time you take a photo, your iPhone (by default) saves the location where the photo was taken. This information is then included when you send the photo to someone via email, messages, and even WhatsApp. This photo can actually be opened on your computer to view all of the details about it, including its GPS coordinates. “Be careful with this,” Thiago at Brave Tech AI warns. Turning off this location setting can help you maintain your privacy.

How to Turn Off the Precise Location Setting

Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > click on Location Services. Scroll down to find the Camera option and turn off Allow Location Access. Make sure “Precise Location” Is off and set the setting to “Never.” That’s all you have to do — you are just seconds aways from better protecting yourself and your family by concealing the location information in photos you take and send.
