Taking good care of your iPhone means protecting it at all costs against hackers and thieves who are after your data. The amount of sensitive information that your phone stores about you is eye opening — and not the kind of thing you want getting put into the world.
Fortunately, there are mistakes you may be making that can be easily corrected. These mistakes, though, could lead to your device being hacked and your data being stolen. Here are the four errors to address ASAP for a more secure phone.
1. Weak Passwords
Hopefully you aren’t using your name or “1234” as your password. But those passwords have to be even more complex than you may think. They should consist of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

2. Connecting to Unsecured Public WiFi
Public WiFi isn’t secure, and it’s a prime outlet for hackers to attempt to steal user data. If you must use public WiFi, make it brief and don’t visit secure sites like banking websites. Don’t put your credit card in to make purchases, either, and consider using a VPN so that your IP address stays hidden.

3. Not Updating iOS
Update iOS whenever new software becomes available. Not doing so leaves your phone more vulnerable to bugs in the code and hackers.

4. Not Turning on 2FA
Two-factor authentication is an iPhone setting that requires anyone trying to access your apps or secure websites to add both a manual password and a separate digital code that is sent to your phone or email. It’s an added line of defense that ensures these sites can just be accessed by anyone lucky enough to crack your password.
