On a scale of one to 10, how frustrated have you become by your phone’s speed (or, rather, its lack of speed)? If your answer is “100,” it’s time to make a few smart and simple changes that will vastly improve the quality of your phone in an instant. Not sure where to start? We asked tech experts to share their best tips on helping a lagging iPhone that has seen better days. Surprisingly, many were in complete agreement over the best course of action: Apple experts say you should be doing this to your iPhone every day to make it run SO MUCH faster.

Turn Off Background Apps

“iPhones have become a common device in a lot of households — at the start it will be all shiny, the speed will be like that of a race car,” says Tech Expert Daria Maltseva at KeyUA. “It’s after three months that the issue starts. One of the main issues that occur is the iPhone getting extremely slow and lagging. This gets really annoying in a lot of situations, especially when one is in an emergency.”

One of the silliest (but effective!) things iPhone users tend to ignore but can play a major role in affecting the working life of the phone is the background apps, Maltseva shares. “If not every hour, the background apps should be closed at least three times a day: morning, afternoon, and evening,” Malteva says. “The background apps simply keep running in your phone and eat your battery life. Clear your phone storage at least every four months. Transferring footage to a hard drive, a USB, or a computer can be an extremely procrastinating task but it needs to be done. This way you are avoiding the issue of being in shortage and keeping the memories safe. The phone won’t lag as it won’t be overfilled with unnecessary screenshots on the phone.”

While you are getting a better handle on your iPhone daily habits, Tech Expert Andy Flynn from SpryLyfe reminds us not to forget the following:

Remove App Cache

Numerous applications store temporary data in the form of cache, which can slow down your phone over time, according to Flynn. “Regularly clearing app cache can free up capacity and improve performance. This can be accomplished via the settings menu or a cache cleanser application,” he adds.

Update your applications and operating system

Keeping your apps and operating system up-to-date ensures that you have the most recent bug fixes and performance enhancements, which can enhance the efficacy of your phone, Flynn says.

Close unused programs

“Multiple applications running in the background can eat up system resources and slow down your phone,” Flynn says. “Develop the routine of closing unused applications, especially resource-intensive ones, to free up system resources and improve performance.”

Eliminate Unneeded Files

Regularly delete unnecessary files from your phone, including old photographs, videos, documents, and app downloads, according to Flynn. :This can help liberate up storage space and boost performance overall,” he says.

Manage Notifications for Apps

Notifications from applications can be a distraction and drain system resources. “Reduce system burden and improve performance by reviewing and disabling unneeded app notifications,” Flynn says.
