When your iPhone battery can’t hold a charge to save its life, it’s time to call in some life-savers: aka great settings that can make a big difference. Whatever the reasons are for your fast battery drainage — an older phone, an older battery, or even apps like social media and navigation apps that are well-known battery killers — taking advantage of a few choice settings will help. Tech Expert Jared Floyd, founder at Ajax Creative, says this is the life-changing iPhone setting that he always relies on to boost your battery and make it last longer.
Optimize Battery Charging
The Optimize Battery Charging setting is a must-use if you are struggling to get your battery to cooperate and last. “[The setting] is designed to slow down the battery aging process and extend your battery’s lifespan,” Floyd says. “It works by monitoring your daily charging patterns and intelligently learns when you typically charge your phone. By doing so, it can reduce the time your iPhone spends fully charged, which can help prevent battery degradation.”
To enable this feature, Floyd reminds us to simply go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Optimize Battery Charging. “Once enabled, your iPhone will analyze your charging habits and adjust its charging behavior accordingly,” he says. “This means that your iPhone will charge up to 80% and then wait to charge the remaining 20% until you need it. By doing this, your battery will experience less strain, resulting in better long-term health and improved battery life.”
Offload Unused Apps
Floyd also sings the praises of a “clever feature” called "Offload Unused Apps" that helps free up storage space without losing your app data.
“When you enable this setting, your iPhone will automatically remove apps that you haven't used in a while, but it will keep their data intact,” he says. “This means that if you decide to reinstall the app in the future, it will be restored with all your settings and data as if it was never deleted.” This can also help boost your battery power.
To activate this feature, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Offload Unused Apps. “Once enabled, your iPhone will start offloading unused apps when it detects that you're running low on storage space,” Floyd says. “This will not only free up valuable space but also allow you to keep your favorite apps without sacrificing storage.”
