Bluetooth stalking is a real thing — and it’s terrifying. No one should walk around fearing for their safety simply because they have a smartphone in their pocket that a perfect stranger can access and use to find out your locations and the places you frequent the most. Although it may be rare to be the victim of this heinous crime, it helps to know about specific “life-saving” security setting on your Android device that can stop stalkers from tracking you.
“Your safety is our priority, so we’re continuously improving unknown tracker alerts to help you stay ahead of unwanted tracking,” Google announced in a blog post. Use this Android feature to keep yourself secure and protected.
Find Nearby
Find Nearby is a feature that allows you to pinpoint a tag’s location if you receive an unknown tracker alert. Your Android will then actually guide you to the source of the tag to help you find out if it’s hidden. The sooner you are alerted about a strange Bluetooth tracker following you, the sooner you can take action.
Temporarily Pause Location
Another person safety feature that can keep your location protected is called Temporarily Pause Location. When you enable this feature you will pause location updates from your device from being detected by an unknown tag for up to 24 hours. Open the tracker alert notification and click 'I can't find the tracker' and then tap 'Temporarily pause'.
