If you’re trying to eat healthier, you might be switching out red meat with white meat and replacing burgers with chicken sandwiches. Although this is a good instinct, it might not be as effective as you’d hope, especially if you are not paying careful attention to what is in the chicken sandwiches you’re now ordering.

A crispy (aka fried) chicken sandwich can be full of calories and fat, making for a decidedly unhealthy meal choice–and the crispy chicken sandwiches at McDonald’s are no exception.

Ordering a crispy chicken sandwich might sound delicious--and it might even seem to be healthier than a Big Mac--but this is not the order for you if you are trying to be more health conscious.

These sandwiches are high in calories and fat, which can definitely add up if you are not careful.

According to Mashed, this chicken sandwich contains 620 calories, 29 grams of fat, and 63 grams of carbs.

For those on a 2,000 calorie per day diet, this takes up a huge amount of what you should be eating.

Plus, these numbers do not account for any sides or drinks that you might order with your crispy chicken sandwich. Many people have a hard time leaving McDonald's without also getting a side of fries or a soda, which only adds more calories to the entire order.

Avoiding fried chicken altogether is probably a good rule of thumb when trying to eat healthier, especially if you are hitting a fast food place like McDonald's.

Instead, opt for a grilled chicken option that will keep the calorie count on the lower side.
