From the moment you wake up, grab your iPhone from the nightstand, and start scrolling to check emails or social media, your phone’s battery is ticking down the moments until it requires another charge. Whether your days are spent commuting or working from home, the last thing you want to do is drain your device’s battery down to zero and leave yourself without a working phone before lunch. Changing up a few of your morning tech habits can help. This is the one morning mistake every iPhone user should stop making because it drains your battery so fast. 

Your Screen Is Too Bright

Picture it: the sun isn’t yet up and you have to be. You look over at your phone and instinctively boost its brightness setting so that you’ll be able to view it with ease. Hold that thought — because this is one unnecessary mistake you could be making.

“People often turn their iPhones to the maximum brightness while keeping their phones on charging in the morning,” says Stephen Curry, the CEO of CocoSign. “Shifting through various apps to check all the notifications on maximum brightness can drain so much battery. The device will consume more energy with the sudden load of applications and full brightness, which is harmful to the battery and also affects the overall performance of the device.”

A much better approach, according to Curry, is to keep the phone at low brightness or on auto-brightness. “The users should not shift apps quickly and must not close the regular usage apps often as the device will use more power to restart it again rather than get the stored information from its cache,” Curry says. 

 


And while you’re taking steps to improve your phone’s battery charge, Olivia Tan, co-founder of CocoFax, reminds us to be considerate of HOW we charge our phones. 

 


“First, don't let your phone's battery deplete — charging it partially is ideal,” Tan says. “Then change some settings and toggle off those unnecessary features like brightness, location services, Bluetooth, AirDrop, Siri suggestions, automatic updates, and so much more. With just a simple tick of your fingers, you can get through the day without even doing a single charge.”
