This year, Netflix has embarked on a series of cancellations that have left fans of various popular shows disappointed and irritated. As many are noting on social media, “they only cancel the good ones.”

Among the latest casualties are Uncoupled and The Brothers Sun, which were discontinued despite their dedicated audiences. As subscribers can attest, Netflix is notoriously known for cutting many of its original series throughout the years.

Interestingly, 2024 has witnessed relatively fewer cancellations by the streaming platform. Here’s a roundup of eight notable shows that have been canceled recently, including Rob Lowe‘s Unstable and the highly anticipated sitcom, That ’90s Show.

The 100+ Best New Beauty Launches Of 2024

Fans React To 8 Notable 2024 Netflix TV Show Cancellations

1. That '90s Show

Kurtwood Smith, star of That '90s Show, disclosed earlier this month that the highly anticipated sequel to That '70s Show has been canceled. Nonetheless, he encouraged fans by saying they would look for other venues. Even so, numerous fans rushed to X to share their disappointment about the news.

"I loved this show," one user wrote as another replied: "STOP!!! THIS IS SO SAD!!!" Someone else noted: "I really hope it gets picked up by another streaming bc service. It was a good show."

2. Unstable

Just this week, Netflix has officially stated that the workplace comedy Unstable, which stars Rob Lowe and his son John Owen Lowe as co-creators and actors, will not see a renewal. First airing last year, the series managed to deliver two seasons. Deadline reports that this decision comes after the show's sophomore season didn't enter Netflix’s Top 10. The news has led many fans to share their frustrations on X (formerly Twitter).

"Once again @netflix cancels a great show #Unstable," one tweeted as another added: "That's really disappointing to hear that Unstable got cancelled after just two seasons. I enjoyed the father-son dynamic and the laughs. I hope we see Rob Lowe and his son in another show soon."

3. Buying Beverly Hills

This show first premiered in 2022, offering viewers a peek into the high-stakes world of luxury real estate in Los Angeles. The show centered around The Agency, a real estate firm run by Mauricio Umansky, who is also known as the ex-husband of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards. Adding to the drama, the series also featured Umansky’s daughters—Farrah, Alexia, and Sophia—as they navigated both their careers in real estate and their complicated family dynamics, including the much-publicized split between Kyle and Mauricio.

Despite the intrigue and fan following, Netflix recently confirmed that Buying Beverly Hills would not be returning for a third season. According to Deadline, the decision to cancel the series was made on August 16th, citing sources who claimed that the cancellation was due to "viewing numbers versus the cost of production." The show’s second season had only premiered this past March, leaving fans with little time to savor what would ultimately be its final episodes—which is often the unfortunate case with canceled shows.

As news of the cancellation spread, fans took to social media to express their disappointment. X user @joyrosenberg voiced their surprise, posting, "I’m surprised Buying Beverly Hills was canceled." Another fan, @missgiggles30, wrote: "Omg, this makes me so upset that @netflix didn’t want to pick up for Season 3 of Buying Beverly Hills. Damn I love this family so much. They are so good at what they do I love this show & was invested in learning about the business of housing."

4. The Brothers Sun

This spring, Netflix canceled The Brothers Sun, an acclaimed action-comedy drama series featuring Michelle Yeoh. Despite its popularity, it ended after just one season, disappointing many fans. The story centers on an ordinary Californian whose life changes when his older brother, a prominent gangster from Taipei raised under a crime lord’s influence, comes to visit.

"Of course netflix has canceled the best thing that i have watched in 2024. no reason to be surprised. bunch of loons. the team behind the brothers sun deserve better," one fan tweeted. Another added: "Netflix canceled The Brothers Sun???? The f—k they doing over there."

5. My Dad The Bounty Hunter

In June, fans were saddened by the news that My Dad The Bounty Hunter, a 3D-animated series created by former Pixar animator and We the People director Everett Downing Jr. along with Patrick Harpin, was canceled after only two seasons. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, this sci-fi children’s show was terminated. Laz Alonso lent his voice to Sabo Brok, a character whose profession is unknown to his children until they secretly board his ship and find out he’s a bounty hunter.

"My Dad the Bounty Hunter: yet another great show that Netflix cancelled," one fan tweeted as another added: "I didn't realize they had cancelled ((My Dad is A bounty hunter))..smh..I thought the show was pretty good."

6. Kaos

Kaos, the Greek mythology-inspired comedy series that launched in August, was recently canceled by Netflix, per Variety's report. Premiering on August 29th, the show featured Jeff Goldblum in the role of the omnipotent Zeus. The storyline, set in a modern era, followed Zeus who had confined Prometheus due to his disruption of his godly dominion over humans. Predictably, upon receiving news of the cancellation, many fans flooded X with their complaints.

"Netflix how do y’all expect us to stay on your platform if you keep cancelling shows?????? Kaos was so good and it deserves at least one more season to wrap things up," one wrote. Another noted: "Someone needs to pick up the second and third season of #KAOS It can’t end like that, I need to know what happens next."

7. Dead Boy Detectives

This summer, as reported by Variety, DC Comics' Dead Boy Detectives was also axed by Netflix. The supernatural horror detective comedy-drama aired its first and final season on April 25th. This event culminates the series’ tumultuous path to broadcast. It originally got a pilot order from Max in 2021 and later a full series order in 2022 before Netflix picked it up in 2023. Soon after news of the cancellation surfaced, disappointed fans took to X to express their feelings.

"Finished watching the dead boy detectives and now i’m even more mad that they canceled it," one recently tweeted as someone else shared: "Most of you have probably heard the news elsewhere by now but Dead Boy Detectives has been cancelled. Really hoped I'd never have to make this tweet :( I hope all of the cast, crew, and fans are doing well!"

8. Obliterated

Variety reported last month that Obliterated, from the creators of Cobra Kai, won't be returning for a second season. Netflix made the unfortunate decision to cancel Season 2, leaving fans disappointed. Despite Cobra Kai’s immense popularity on the platform, Obliterated failed to achieve similar success. However, numerous fans are not prepared to let go of the show yet, as shown by their passionate responses on social media.

"What?! It was hilarious and so good. Bring it back," one wrote after seeing news of the cancellation on Instagram. Someone else commented: "What? One of the best Netflix shows tf. Better than some of the crap Netflix has on now." Another hopeful user noted: "Hopefully a smarter streaming platform pick them up !!!"
