Of course you want your iPhone battery to be as long lasting as possible, and sometimes that means sacrificing a few settings. There are a number of settings on your device that can cause it to slow down and stall — all because of the battery-intensive resources they take up.
If you want the fastest, most efficient iPhone battery possible, it’s a good idea to turn off these settings, or just never turn them on. As convenient as some of these may be, they aren’t worth it if you want a phone that doesn’t take its time doing everything under the sun.
Background App Refresh
Background App Refresh continually refreshes your apps so that they deliver the latest and greatest content whenever you access them. This is much more of a nice-to-have feature than it is a necessity and turning it off will help save battery power. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
Push Notifications
Do you need to be nudged every time you get an update on an app or another message? If you prefer to check messages and notifications at your own pace, go to Settings > Notifications and adjust this setting.
Hey Siri
Siri is your personal tech assistant, which feels fun and novel at first. If it’s been a dog’s age since you have used this feature, it’s time to turn it off and conserve battery. Go to Settings > Siri & Search > choose “off” to turn off Hey Siri.
Bluetooth and WiFi
You’ll need WiFi turned on most times, and of course when you’re at home. And you’ll want Bluetooth turned on when you’re using any app that has GPS capabilities. But for those days when you’re out and about and can afford to let your phone rest, turn off WiFi and Bluetooth so that your phone doesn’t work hard to find a connection for you. This takes up battery resources that you don’t need.
Reduce Motion
Your phone can look really cool or it can retain battery power — sometimes it can’t be both things at once. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and reduce motion as a way of keeping your phone from overdoing it when it comes to battery power.
