Each year there is at least one super-hot holiday tech gift that seems to sell out before Halloween. The 2020 holiday season is no exception — everyone is trying to get their hands on a Sony PlayStation 5, and (as you can guess) the console is MIA from major shopping sites. But don’t give up hope yet. The trick is staying on top of shopping sites and knowing the best basket to put all of your shopping eggs. Consumer Analyst Jon Vincent, founder and spokesperson for the Black Friday website EarlyBlackFriday.com spoke to SHEFinds.com about the one place still carrying the PS5 this holiday season — get it before it sells out again.
“The best chance to get a console is at Walmart and they will have multiple releases of the console during Cyber Week,” Vincent says. “Since Walmart is going to offer the console multiple times this week, here are some tips on how to get one.”
The first thing Vincent says to make sure you do is log into your Walmart.com account with all the payment details and shipping information set up in your account. Second, is to act fast: “Once the consoles go live, immediately try to add it to your cart.”
From here you should immediately attempt to check out, Vincent says. “If the item sells out before you check out, do not empty your cart! The next time the product is available to buy, once the sale goes live, go to your shopping cart instead and refresh that. The console will move from out of stock to in stock and you will be able to proceed through check out.”
A speedy response really does pay when it comes to scoring one of the season’s most-wanted tech gifts. Vincent says he used this particular trick to grab a PS5, since it allowed him to skip the step of having to add it to his cart.
“The real secret is the fact that you will most likely be able to get the console during the second Walmart release of consoles instead of the first,” Vincent says. “So for example, if they went on sale at 9pm ET on 11/30 and then at 7am ET on 12/1, your goal in the 11/30 release is to get the console into your shopping cart. Then once 7am ET on 12/1 arrives (or whatever the time is that Walmart publicizes), refresh your shopping cart and quickly check out.”
So, remember: prep your Walmart account, check it often (and set a stock alert so that you’ll be notified the minute another PS5 is available) and act fast. Happy shopping!
