There are certain foods sitting in your pantry that you should avoid at all costs. The worst offender is high-sugar breakfast cereals. While these products might not be too harmful for children in moderation, adults should never eat high-sugar foods for breakfast.
Eating too much sugar may put you at risk for obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and many other chronic health concerns. Plus, sugar is one of the biggest contributors to weight gain - it’s actually much worse than fatty foods.
There are many breakfast cereals with higher sugar counts than desserts. And, many brands will mix in whole grains or proteins to the cereal, but this doesn’t actually negate the amount of sugar. Eating any type of sugary cereal, whether you have it in the morning or as a midday snack, can cause you to gain weight as it is a type of carbohydrate and it makes you feel more hungry than you actually are.
Next time, swap out the sugary cereal for overnight oats. You can make these oats in a way that tastes sweet using honey or another natural sweetener, to get your sweet fix in the morning without harming your health.
