Do you ever really have enough storage space on your iPhone? It certainly doesn’t seem so, especially when Apple’s notorious “storage full” pop-ups seem to appear on our devices every few months. It isn’t too surprising that this happens considering the number of photos and videos we store on our device and the numerous apps we download — and continue downloading.
But we can’t be blamed for feeling a little annoyed when pre-installed apps take up space on our device considering how seldom we use many of them. The good news is you can delete many of these apps from your phone and conserve some space for apps that matter to you. Here are four pre-installed apps that are wasting your storage and are worth uninstalling.
1. Compass
In truth, Compass doesn’t take up a ton of storage space. It typically takes up about 10 to 20 MB, but if you’re of the mind that any storage is too much storage for something you never use, you can delete it from your iPhone as long as you’re running iOS 14 or later.
2. Stocks
Similar to Compass, Stocks only takes up about 10 to 20 MB. With that said, if you’ve ever used Stocks, but no longer find it helpful, it may have left more of a footprint on your device. You can check out how much storage it’s taking up on your phone by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and checking under Stocks.
3. Apple News
Apple News can take up between 50 to 100 MB of storage, but this number depends on how much you use it and its cached data. For some, this app provides a helpful way to get aggregated news content without much effort and scrolling on their part. However, you may already be subscribed to your favorite news outlets, podcasts, and substacks, in which case, Apple News can probably be deleted to save some storage space.
4. Voice Memos
Voice Memos can take up 20 to 30 MB of storage, but the more you use this app and retain messages, the more storage it consumes. If you’re a fan of leaving yourself voice memos, keep the app but regularly delete old messages. And if you prefer Notes or another memo app, offload the app to keep your recordings or delete it completely.
