Quaker just expanded their recall of over 80 varieties of granola bars and granola cereal products due to a potential salmonella contamination. The FDA made the announcement last Friday, and said that the contaminated products were sold throughout all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan in stores like Costco, Walmart, and Target.

As of now, the Quaker Oats Company has not received any confirmed reports of illness related to the recalled items. Keep reading for more information.

The recently recalled products include Cap'n Crunch Treats Crunch Berries Cereal Bars, Strawberry Quaker Chewy Granola Breakfast Cereal, and Cap’n Crunch Instant Oatmeal, which are all common lunch-box / snack items for school children.

Other affected products from the initial recall (issued on December 15, 2023) include many variations of Quaker Chewy Bars, Quaker Big Chewy Bars, Quaker Chewy Bars Mini, Quaker Chewy Dipps, and Quaker Chewy Mini Dipps, along with Quaker Puffed Granola, Quaker Simply Granola Oats, and Quaker Protein Granola Oats. Salmonella Symptoms

Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, and in rare cases, according to the FDA, "Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis." Salmonella can cause fatal infections in children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Be sure to check your pantry for any Quaker items that may be contaminated with Salmonella in order to keep your family safe.
