There are two things every iPhone owner wants more of: storage and battery power. Unfortunately, both can be hard to come by, especially if you’ve owned your device for a few years. But gaining valuable storage and battery doesn’t have to be a pipe dream, either. With just a few simple settings adjustments you can go from low storage and battery to a more efficient phone that feels like an absolute pleasure to use and doesn’t leave you scrambling for a charger in the middle of the day. This is the one setting you should turn on immediately for better battery life and storage on your iPhone.
Set Auto-Lock to 30 seconds
You can automatically save a ton of battery power with this one simple trick: setting auto-lock to 30 seconds will turn off your screen 30 seconds later when there are no activities and will shorten the screen-on time and save battery on your iPhone, according to Myra Xian, a tech editor at mobi.easeus.com. All you have to do is head to Settings > Display & Brightness and set 30 seconds for Auto-Lock.
Although this is perhaps the simplest move you can make to instantly gain back battery power, Xian recommends following three more important iPhone tips that will boost battery and give you more storage.
Lower screen brightness
Decreasing your iPhone’s screen brightness will help you extend the battery life, Xian says. “When you set your iPhone at its full brightness, it drains your battery fast, as higher brightness requires more power to achieve. The Purdue study found it will save an average of 39%-47% battery power to switch the light mode from 100% to dark mode. Apart from switching to Low Power Mode, the first thing I do is to lower my iPhone’s brightness when there is not enough battery. Simply go to the Control Center and drag the brightness () down to the lowest level you are comfortable with. You can also go to Settings > Display & Brightness, then drag the slider to adjust the brightness.”
Auto-Brightness
The Auto-Brightness mode will consume more power on your iPhone, according to Xian. Toggle it off from Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
Automatically Delete Old Conversations
All of these tips will help boost your battery capabilities, but what if you’re low on storage and require more to take photos, download apps, and use your phone the way you’d like to? “You know photos take a huge portion of your iPhone storage, but you rarely notice that your iPhone messages may also occupy a larger part of your internal storage than you may have expected,” Xian said. “The longer you use your iPhone, the more messages are accumulated that run out of the space.. Given that, you can let your iPhone automatically delete old messages to free up more storage. To do so, you can go to Settings, scroll down to choose Messages, tap Keep Messages, and choose 1 Year or 30 Days. Afterward, the iPhone will auto-remove messages older than 1 year or 30 days.”
Before you spend another dollar on more storage space or yet another charger that you hope will keep your phone’s battery running for longer than an hour, try these simple changes to your settings.
