Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but eating the wrong breakfast can be seriously harmful to your diet. The foods you eat in the morning set the tone for the rest of your day – eating foods high in proteins, fiber and healthy carbs can set you up for a day full of energy, but eating foods with a high sugar content can leave you feeling lethargic and hungrier than you actually are.
Most people think that eating fruits for breakfast is a guaranteed way to make sure you’re having a healthy breakfast, but there is one seemingly healthy fruit that can ruin your diet if you eat it in the mornings. Plus, this fruit is a very common breakfast ingredient. Can you guess which fruit we’re talking about?
The answer is bananas. Despite the fact that bananas only contain about 100 calories each, they are not very good for you. Bananas contain high levels of sugar, carbs and starch.
A lot of healthy-seeming breakfasts call for bananas: muffins, homemade breakfast bars, parfaits, banana bread. But adding banana to your morning meal can add a lot of sugar and starch to your day that you don’t need or want.
Instead of adding banana to your breakfast, opt for an avocado next time. Avocados contain more potassium and fiber than bananas, and are loaded with nutrients, healthy fats, and don’t contain too much sugar. Plus, they make for a great breakfast ingredient.
