Want To Smooth Crow's Feet Without Botox? A Dermatologist Says These Affordable Ingredients Can Help Minimize Fine Lines

Crow’s feet are one of the first signs of aging many people notice, but according to one dermatologist, you don’t necessarily need expensive treatments or Botox injections to soften their appearance.

In a recent video, board-certified dermatologist Lindsey Zubritsky, MD, FAAD, explained that fine lines around the eyes are completely normal—especially as we get older. However, for those looking to smooth the area, she recommends focusing on a few proven skincare ingredients that can help improve the look of wrinkles over time.

“The fine lines around the eyes as a millennial are 100% normal,” she said. “But if they bother you, you do not have to break the bank on Botox to get them to look better.”

1. Retinol

When it comes to reducing the appearance of crow's feet, Zubritsky says retinol remains one of the most effective over-the-counter ingredients available.

"Retinol is the GOAT of GOATs at minimizing fine lines and wrinkles," she explained.

Retinol, a vitamin A derivative, works by speeding up cell turnover and stimulating collagen production. Over time, this can help soften existing wrinkles and improve skin texture around the delicate eye area.

For best results, Zubritsky recommends using an eye cream formulated with retinol or carefully applying your regular facial retinol around the crow's feet area if your skin tolerates it.

2. Peptides

Another ingredient the dermatologist swears by is peptides. "There's no such thing as Botox in a bottle, but this is the closest thing to it," she said.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that help support collagen production and improve skin firmness. Certain peptides, such as Matrixyl, may also help relax the appearance of expression lines, making crow's feet appear less noticeable.

While the results won't be as dramatic as injectable treatments, peptides can be a valuable addition to an anti-aging routine—especially for those seeking a gentler approach.

3. Hyaluronic Acid

Hydration is another key factor in reducing the look of fine lines. According to Zubritsky, hyaluronic acid is one of the easiest ways to give the eye area a smoother, plumper appearance.

"This is a humectant that is going to draw more water to the area, which will plump fine lines and reduce crepiness," she explained.

Because dehydration can make wrinkles look more pronounced, adding moisture back into the skin can create an immediate soft-focus effect while also supporting a healthier skin barrier.

The Bottom Line

While Botox remains one of the fastest ways to smooth dynamic wrinkles, Zubritsky says a combination of retinol, peptides, and hyaluronic acid can significantly improve the appearance of crow's feet without a trip to the dermatologist's office.

The best part? Many eye creams now combine all three ingredients into one formula, making it easier than ever to target fine lines while keeping the delicate eye area hydrated, firm, and youthful-looking.
