Starbucks has been millions of coffee drinkers’ go-to for years, settling itself into the market as one of, if not the giant of the industry. And you know what they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Unfortunately, it seems Starbucks has opted for change instead, and has launched a new iced coffee blend completely different from the one they’ve been using for the past 18 years. Their plan seems to have backfired, though, as loyal customers claim on social media that the coffee “doesn’t even taste good anymore.” Keep reading for more information.
Starbucks Changes Their Iced Coffee Recipe
Iced coffee is one of the most popular drinks at Starbucks, and the chain has been following the same tried and true recipe since 2006. That is, until May of this year. The new blend is now made with a blend of "sun-dried and washed" Latin American coffee beans that makes for coffee that's "approachable and refreshing with notes of malted milk chocolate and a brown-sugar sweetness," the coffee chain told TODAY.com.
"Designed with versatility in mind, the new Iced Coffee Blend is delicious either on its own or customized to any customer’s preference,” Starbucks coffee developer Leslie Wolford said in a statement. Unfortunately, it seems that customers' preference lies in the old iced coffee recipe, and not the new one.
Starbucks Customers Don't Like The New Iced Coffee Receipe
Many loyal customers have taken to social media to see if their fellow coffee drinkers have noticed the subtle, yet completely different change. "Is it just me or is the iced coffee just not good anymore???" one person asked on Reddit. "Am I doing something wrong? I don't remember the iced coffee being this bad."
"You're not doing anything wrong," another person answered. "They changed something with the iced coffee recipe and it doesn't quite taste the same anymore. Iced coffee used to be my go-to drink but now I drink cold brew instead since the iced coffee taste like coffee flavored water."
"They managed to make it as terrible as Dunkin now," another person wrote. "I already miss the old formula that actually tasted like strong coffee.
"It's absolutely disgusting now," a final customer said.
