Your iPhone offers so many amazing features that can enhance your user experience. From brightness settings to location services that help you keep track of important addresses (when your brain just wants to discard them forever), there are numerous settings that make your life and work day run more smoothly. But with great features often comes one major downside: battery drainage. “Apple’s iOS operating system is more powerful than ever, but there are a few features that can drain your battery and reduce performance,” says Tech Expert Jaber Abbadi from Drclix.com. Here are four system services you should disable on your iPhone for better battery life.

AirDrop

“This feature allows users to share files over Wi-Fi with other nearby devices,” Abbadi says. “But it uses Bluetooth, so it’s active all the time, even when no one is using it. If you don’t need this feature and want to save power, turn it off.”

Location Services (GPS)

These settings automatically track your location using GPS and cellular signals. “They are not on by default, but they can be turned on at any time during setup or if you later install an app like Waze or Google Maps through iTunes Store,” Abbadi says. Location Services should be turned off unless absolutely necessary, Abbadi recommends. Not only is it a battery-draining culprit, but it may also be collecting information about your whereabouts that you’d prefer to keep private.

Background App Refresh

“This feature automatically updates your apps in the background, which is a very resource-intensive activity,” Abbadi says. “You may not be aware of this but it uses up a lot of battery power, especially if you have a lot of apps installed on your phone.”

Auto-Brightness

Last but not least: auto-brightness. You may not even be aware that your screen is brighter than the sun — until you lower this setting and realize you and your computer can co-exist at a lower brightness setting just fine.

“Auto-brightness regulates your iPhone’s display brightness automatically depending on how bright it is outside,” Abbadi says. “If you leave it on, it will adjust itself to make sure that the screen doesn’t get too bright or too dim – which could drain your battery faster than necessary.”

Try adjusting these four service settings on your iPhone to gain back major battery power.
