I have been covering free shipping deadlines for Christmas for over a decade–and I have NEVER seen anything like Target’s new policy.
The company just revealed to USA Today exclusively that their deadline for pick-up and same-day delivery services by Christmas is Christmas Eve, December 24th, at 5pm. Trust me–this is unheard of.

While Amazon is also offering same-day delivery on Christmas Eve, there are product restrictions and order minimums may occur. Oh, and it's only available to Prime Members who pay $119/year--and Target's same-delivery through Shipt requires no membership fee!
That's not to mention the fast that the deadline for ground shipping (ie. what most retailers offer for free shipping) for the nation's largest carriers has already passed. It was December 15th for FedEx, UPS and the U.S. Postal Service--almost exactly as it was in 2019.

“We know guests are looking for those last-minute gifts or items right before the holiday, and our industry-leading same-day services are here to save the day with a fast, safe and reliable way to get everything they need,” chief marketing, digital and strategy officer Rick Gomez, revealed in a statement.
The Minneapolis-based company has said that same-day delivery business has grown tremendously during the pandemic. They've added 150,000 Shipt employees (called "shoppers") for the holiday, doubled the number of Drive Up parking spots at stores, and added about $200 million of additional sales for the quarter.
