Let’s talk about your nighttime eating habits. Are you someone who enjoys an early bird dinner or do you typically cram in a late meal before bed? Do you eat your dinner early enough to leave room for snack time while watching your favorite show at night? It turns out the snacks you munch on at nighttime often do more harm than good for your waistline, even if you believed those snacks were “healthy” for you.
Many foods wear a “healthy” mask when they’re actually not as healthy as you were led to believe. Many of these “healthy” snack alternatives to typical potato chips contain ingredients that can lead to fat gain and they don’t even have much more nutritional value than your ordinary snacks.
It’s key to look at the nutritional value of the snacks you put into your body to make sure they’re good for both you and your gut. There’s one particular health food that is really junk food in disguise and is a snack that can lead to fat gain.
It may come as a surprise that those veggie chips you reach for aren’t really all that healthier for you than regular potato chips.
In an interview with Self, registered dietitian Colleen Tewksbury says people have been falsely led to believe veggie chips are good for you. “I think a lot of their appeal is playing into individuals’ desire to have a yummy snack with a healthy angle they can feel better about.”
Furthermore, Tewksbury explains that many varieties of vegetable chips are similar to regular potato chips when you look at their ingredients and nutritional value. “Depending on the brand you’re looking at, they usually have comparable fat, calorie, carb, and fiber content,” Tewksbury reveals to Self. Yikes!
