Cinnamon has innumerable health benefits. If you're a daily tea drinker, making cinnamon tea a part of your morning routine can lower blood sugar, reduce heart disease risk factors, and more. We spoke to Nathalie W. Rhone, MS, RDN, CDN of Nutrition by Nathalie to get the lowdown on cinnamon tea and your waistline.
"Cinnamon helps to stabilize blood sugar levels and improves sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which can help curb cravings and achieve and maintain a healthy weight," she explains of the wonder spice.
And it's not like being a kid and having to choke down broccoli--cinnamon actually improves the taste! "With a naturally sweet taste, adding cinnamon to your foods and/or beverages is a great way to sweeten up recipes without using sugar," she says.
You can also add to your other breakfast foods, such as your granola or into smoothies, Nathalie says.
"Cinnamon is one of my go to spices. It’s a healthy, delicious way to add a touch of sweetness. For example, I use it in my almond milk, with roasted veggies, throw it on nut butter or granola, into my smoothies, and add it to fresh fruit."
And the benefits have been known for centuries. "I’m a believer in Chinese medicine, which views cinnamon as a very warming herb, promoting heat and blood circulation in the body and helping to open up any blocked channels." Wow!
