It’s all too easy to use up your iPhone battery during the day and be left with a dying phone before dinnertime. If it’s important to you to keep your phone going for hours, it’s also important to avoid making common iPhone mistakes that can do a number on your battery. Tech Expert Atta Ur Rehman, a content marketer at Physicians Thrive, spoke with SHEFinds.com about the five things you should never do with your iPhone if you want the battery to stay full all day.
1. LIMIT ANIMATIONS
The animations in the newest versions of iOS make the iPhone user experience more lively, cool, and enhance the smoothness effect, Ur Rehman. Unfortunately, they aren’t great for battery power. “It consumes a lot of battery, and turning it off can result in a significant increase in battery life,” Ur Rehman says. “To turn it off, simply go to Settings > General > Accessibility > and turn ON Reduce Motions.”
2. DISABLE WIRELESS CONNECTIONS
“The future is wireless!” Ur Rehman says. “The number of wireless devices and connections has made it easier to forget the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth setting ON even when not in use. If you want your iPhone battery to last longer, turn OFF both from the Settings and not from the Control Center, as toggling it from the Control Center only disables temporarily and still searches for nearby connections.”
3. REDUCE BRIGHTNESS
You may not even be aware of how bright you are keeping your screen, but once you adjust this setting, you WILL notice a difference in battery power.
“Some people recommend keeping the brightness setting on AUTO to preserve battery life,” Ur Rehman says. “However, from personal testing and experience, I recommend manually changing the brightness rather than keeping it on AUTO. It’s because, under AUTO, the sensor constantly searches for light and toggles the brightness accordingly, whereas, in manual, you can keep the screen at a constant visible level making the battery last longer.”
4. LOCATE BATTERY DRAINING APPS
One of the best things you can do for your phone’s battery is stay aware of which apps are consuming the most power so that you can rely on them less often, or plug in your charger when they are in use.
“In the newer versions of iOS, under the ‘Battery’ option in Settings, you can find which apps and games use the most battery since the last 24 hours or in the last 10 days,” Ur Rehman says. “It further shows the ‘Activity’ levels and detailed ‘Battery Usage’ levels which gives the user a comprehensive analysis that they can use to alter their habits by limiting the usage of battery killing apps.”
5. USE ALTERNATE DEVICES FOR BATTERY-INTENSIVE THINGS
“From utility apps to FPS games, there are a ton of battery-intensive things on the App Store that will drain your iPhone battery in no time,” Ur Rehman says. “To maintain your iPhone battery and make it last the whole day, it is recommended to use other devices such as an iPad that not only provides a better experience through its bigger display, but the larger battery also delivers uninterrupted gaming and Netflix watching experience. Unless you have a charger and wall plug nearby or a battery pack with you, avoid heavy tasks on your iPhone.”
