It’s typically a really smart idea to update your iPhone as soon as new software becomes available. But the most recent iPhone update — iOS 14 — has been found to contain several problems that may make you want to think twice. Mika Kujapelto, CEO and founder of Laptop Unboxed, spoke with SHEFinds.com about why you should wait to update your iPhone.

Updating your iPhone can improve your iPhone's security, but updating too soon can also create annoying problems, according to Kujapelto. “The bugs associated with Apple’s new iOS 14.3 updates come with more issues than anyone initially thought,” Kujapelto says. “There were bug problems with iPhone 12 and other new devices, but the latest iOS 14 update has created issues with older devices.”

If you do have an older device, you may notice the iOS 14 bug doesn’t always allow notifications or the red circle badges signifying new messages on iMessage, WhatsApp, and other apps, Kujapelto says.

“Simultaneously, others have issues with the sound notification when they receive messages, which can be detrimental for those who need to be notified of important messages,” Kujapelto says. “However, what makes it more confusing for iPhone owners is the randomness of the bug interference.”

It isn’t unusual for a new update to feature a few issues at first.

“This newest update just came out, so it’s normal for some glitches and bugs to occur the first few weeks after a recent update release,” Kujapelto says.

It's too soon to know for sure if the iOS 14.3 fixed the fast battery drain issue that many users discovered in older iOS 14 updated versions, Kujapelto says.

Your best best for now?

“The best thing to do is wait a while until Apple has fixed any more issues that customers discover with this newest update,” Kujapelto says.
