You Might Want To Brace Yourself For This Major Covid Announcement From Walgreens

Walgreens has begun distributing Covid-19 vaccines in states across the country this week!

The company, which announced via Twitter that the first vaccine had been administered in a long-term care facility in Columbus Ohio on December 19th, is now administering the vaccine in countless other states including California, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona and North Carolina.

Many states announced this week that they had opted into the federal program and vaccinations were being doled out at long-term care facilities and nursing home by Walgreens, along with partner CVS Health.

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California announced that the state had opted in to the federal pharmacy partnership, and that CVS and Walgreens had begun to administer Pfizer's vaccine to residents and staff at long-term care facilities starting on Monday, December 28th.

Last week, Moderna shipped over 175,000 doses of its vaccine to North Carolina, where they are being distributed through CVS and Walgreens this week, according to local news affiliate WRAL.

In Arizona, the state's largest skilled nursing facility located in Tucson, will begin getting the Moderna vaccine Tuesday, January 5th through Walgreens. This is huge!

Georgia's governor Brian Kemp reiterated the importance of the state's federal allotment of vaccines being delivered through the Walgreens program straight to the long-term care facilities. "The public-private partnership with CVS and Walgreens to go straight to facilities, like here at Pruitt, take the states out of being the middle man," he said at a press conference on Monday.

Wisconsin Public Radio reported on the same day that an official with the state's Wisconsin Health Care Association/Wisconsin Center for Assisted Living, said Walgreens and CVS Health had begun injecting residents and staff with the Moderna vaccine.

Mass Live also reported that teams from Walgreens were expected to administer doses at several locations across the state this week.

"To be able to be vaccine distributors in our communities is definitely something as a professional, we're really proud of," pharmacy manager Kata Latta said in the video posted to Walgreens Twitter account.

"Next up: Our network of over a thousand team members preparing to do the same," the company explained.
