Shopping for furniture and décor in stores like Walmart can certainly be exciting (especially thanks to all those low prices!) but it can also feel like a guessing game at times. How will that coffee table look with the rest of your furniture back at home? And will that lamp even fit between the couch and the wall? Luckily, with these new changes coming to the Walmart app this month, you’ll be able to find the answers to those questions with just a few clicks on your phone—technology is truly changing the game all around! The company recently spilled all the details in a blog post.
That’s right: The Walmart app is rolling out new augmented reality features in July. Now, customers will be able to see exactly how furniture from the store will look in any room in their house before they buy it. It’s the “try before you buy” of the future!
Shoppers will be able to use this "view in your space" AR feature when looking at 300 different furniture and décor items available in the app, which will connect right to your phone's camera. All you have to do is point your camera at the area in which you'd like to see the furniture, and it'll look just like the real deal. You'll also be able to toggle dimensions in order to get the sizing of everything right. How convenient! This feature will be especially helpful for shoppers with disabilities, as they will be able to use gesture controls and listen to audio instructions and descriptions.
It doesn't stop there, either. In addition to this at-home-shopping hack, which is available (in beta) in the iOS app this month, another AR feature that will come in handy in stores is coming soon. This one offers the ability to filter products "based on your personal preferences" like dietary restrictions and sales simply by aiming your camera at items on the shelves. "Imagine you’re a customer who is gluten-free. Using the AR in-store tool, you’ll be able to use your phone to read food ingredients quickly and easily identify gluten-free products," the blog post explained. In addition to providing an easy way to check the ingredients of items, the app will also indicate which products are on clearance, rollback, and more.
Sounds like there's a new AR feature just about everyone can benefit from, whether you're redecorating your room or just want to make the most out of your shopping experience. As the company notes, "All of these AR-powered features are helping us deliver fast, engaging and personalized experiences that take the work out of shopping and underscore our commitment to using technology to save customers time and money." Nice!
