Over the past year, Wendy’s has consistently stated it has no intention of increasing prices during high-demand periods or adopting surge pricing. Instead, the company plans to experiment with dynamic pricing options that could provide discounts during slower periods.

However, according to customer reports on Reddit, some menu items appear to be getting more expensive. One user recently posted that they used to buy a plain cheeseburger for $1.89, but found that the same item cost $2.69 just a week later. They also mentioned, “Last week, Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers and Junior Cheeseburgers were $2.29… now they are $2.69,” and “all the double versions of those went from $3.29 to $3.69, and chicken nuggets from $3.29 to $3.69.”

Wendy’s Faces Backlash For ‘Insane Price Hikes’ After A Customer Shares Proof Of A ‘32% Price Increase’ On The Same Meal

Fans continue to flock to the social platform to express their opinions on what they describe as “insane” price increases. As the aforementioned user @marginalizedman71 wrote in the r/wendys thread (titled “Insane Price Hikes”), “Holy sh-t. Last week a cheesy cheddar burger or plain burger was 1.89. This week it’s 2.69….. that’s about a 32% increase in the cheapest items? WTF?”

They added: “Last week JBC and JR cheeseburgers were 2.29… now they are 2.69…. All the double version of those went from 3.29 to 3.69… chicken nuggets from 3.29 to 3.69.” The Wendy’s customer continued: “Not sure what small drink was last week but it’s 3.20 for a drink cup now… lmao.

The frustrated user went on: "It’s like they realized some of us can only afford Cheesy Cheddarburgers and decided "f---k them for being to poor to order our full overpriced menu items, not realizing this just priced a lot of that demographic out of buying food there period?"" They then wondered: "Is this just my location because they just got forced to do their 10 year location reno?"

They concluded the post: "Sad but for me this means the only place I can afford to eat out is Burger King using their survey coupon. What a sad existence our generation lives in. I hope fast food just dies at this point."

One other Wendy's fan replied in the thread: "It'll go higher than that in a few months, too. Wendys stopped trying with the low prices a few years back. A doublestack is 3.29 USD here."

What Has Wendy's Said About Price Increases And Surge Pricing?

They went on: "I'm better off going to Dairy Queen and getting a 2 for 5 deal. Dairy Queen now has better deals on burgers than wendys now. Ha. Everybody raising their prices, but DQ didn't, so they won my customer loyalty." The commenter concluded: "However it's still annoyingly expensive. I only go places if I have coupons now. You should find a way to get coupons."

In February 2024, the Associated Press reported that Wendy's announced it would not increase prices during high-demand periods or introduce surge pricing. Instead, the fast-food chain intended to trial new menus with discounts available during off-peak hours. Despite this, there is ongoing debate among customers on platforms like Reddit about whether prices are actually rising.
