Why is your phone suddenly running at a snail’s pace, you may be wondering? Why does it take forever to download apps, search for sites, send and receive texts — basically, to do everything that it used to do at a much faster speed? The truth is you could be doing everything right, but your phone is vulnerable to time. On top of that, some of the habits you have acquired over the years or settings that you haven’t been taking advantage of or disabling could also be contributing to a slower device. Tech Expert Jacob Smith from Desktopman.com outlines five ways you can help speed up your iPhone instantly.
“I’ve had an iPhone for almost a year now. I’ve used it to take pictures, record videos, and even make phone calls,” Smith says. “But it’s still got some speed problems. I know I could spend hours messing around with settings, but there has to be a quicker solution. Here are five things that can be done in seconds to save you time and frustration in the long run.”
Disable Background App Refresh
If your apps are constantly running, they are taking up precious battery power. “Go to Settings > General > Usage > Background App Refresh,” Smith says. “Scroll down and tap on Limit Background App Refresh to On. You’ll notice that apps can no longer refresh automatically while you’re using them. Now you won’t be bothered with having to disable them before you leave the app.”
Turn off Auto-Lock
In the same section as above, Smith recommends turning off Auto-Lock. “This means that your device will no longer lock itself when you walk away from it,” Smith says. “You’ll always need to actively put the device into sleep mode or turn it off.” And what this all means is less of a chance that your phone will needlessly run without you near it and consume battery.
Adjust Battery Percentage
When you’re on a low battery, your device will warn you by vibrating and showing a percentage of battery life, Smith says. “You can change the vibration pattern by going to Settings > Display & Brightness > Vibration > Vibrate When Low on Battery,” Smith says. “You can also change the display percentage by going to Settings > Display & Brightness > Automatically Dim When Screen is Off.”
Automatically Shut Down the Device
If you’re sick of turning off your phone, you can set up a scheduled shutdown, which will ensure that you save battery power without having to remember to manually turn it off. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically > Schedule Shutdown, Smith says. You can choose when your device goes to sleep as well.
Disable Notifications
“If you’ve ever been annoyed by notifications on your device, you can easily turn them off,” Smith says. “Go to Settings > Notification Center > All Notifications > Notification Center. You can now choose whether you want to receive notifications for everything, specific apps, or none at all.”
Try these tips the next time your slow phone frustrates you to no end. They may make the difference you’ve been looking for and create a much better iPhone user experience for you.
