iPhone users are always looking for ways to boost our battery’s longevity so that we can keep our phones for as long as possible. The goal with our phones should be to only change models when we are good and ready to do so, and not when our batteries are beginning to conk out on us and create more inefficiencies in how our phone operates.
You may be shocked to learn that you could be contributing to your iPhone battery’s slow demise by doing something that Apple actually recommends.

While you are paying closer attention to your charging habits to make sure you aren’t using the wrong charging cables or charging your phone to 100 percent every charging sessions, don’t neglect this one tip. One tech expert actually calls this the “worst thing you can do” for your smartphone.

When Apple first came out with the iPhone, it also sold a 5-watt charging block that now seems very slow to some people. But there’s a reason why this speed is intended for the phone. The slower charger took more time to power up your device, but it did so without heating it up. Because extreme temperatures, including heat, are detrimental to your phone battery, you’ll want to avoid getting the battery too hot.

The 20-watt chargers that Apple currently sells charge your device far faster, but at a cost: they add more heat to your battery. If you’re “in a pinch” and need to charge your phone quickly, the 20-watt charger makes more sense to use. But for all other times, and especially when you’re charging your phone while you sleep, go for the slower charger. It will help ensure that your battery lasts longer.
