A resurfaced exchange between the co-founder Jim Sinegal and current CEO Craig Jelinek reveals that the company leaders nearly went to blows over the club’s iconic $1.50 hot dog and soda combo special. Yes, you read that correctly.
Last week, a screenshot of a 2018 Mental Floss story about the encounter went viral. The Tweet has since been shared over 91,000 times, and the internet is incredulous over the heated exchange--all about fast food!

According to the article, Jelinek once grumbled that the superstore was losing money with their quarter-pound hot dog and 20 oz. soda special.
Sinegal made this terrifying response: "If you raise [the price of] the effing hot dog, I will kill you." Yeesh!

As loyal Costco shoppers know, the wholesalers hasn't raised the price of the legendary combo since it first hit menus in 1984!
"Figure it out," Sinegal barked at Jelinek, who later obliged and the company would go on to sell 151 million hotdog combos in 2019, or roughly $226.5 million in sales. Still--doesn't make the threats any less scary!
