When shopping at a grocery store, have you ever noticed how flawless and pristine all of the produce looks? Each piece of fruit or bunch of vegetables seems to look picture perfect. So, what exactly happens to the produce that doesn’t look up to par for consumers?

Misfits Market is an online grocery delivery service that makes high-quality food more affordable by fighting food waste. They partner with food makers and farmers to source and rescue fresh produce, dairy products, sustainably sourced pantry staples, seafood, high-quality meats and much more. By selling the “unusual looking” produce you don’t see at supermarkets, products that are in excess supply or snacks that have out-of-date packaging, they’re able to save roughly half a million pounds of food from waste and lesser outcomes each week!

I was given the opportunity to join the weekly grocery plan at Misfits Market to see what it was all about. I had a three-day shopping window where I could create my own cart but was also automatically given a list of curated item suggestions that was helpful in seeing what was available. I thought this was extremely unique as you can also set preferences that allow Misfits to better understand what types of items you are looking for and create a more personalized shopping experience.

I was curious to see what products were offered, so I spent my time browsing through their selection. The assortment of products available on the website changes every week which helps you discover new brands and products. They have even created their own brand called Odds & Ends that offers customers quality essentials and pantry staples at lower prices.

I found most of the staples that I usually purchase on a weekly basis such as chicken, apples, avocados and carrots. But the one thing I wanted to learn more about was the produce that were described as “misshapen” or “too large,” so I immediately added apples and avocados with these descriptors to my cart. I also added a few pantry staples including tomato paste and olive oil as well as a pack of organic chicken and grass-fed steak. I was also excited to see that a package of red seedless grapes was significantly cheaper than at my normal grocery store, so I included that in my order. They even have well known brands including my favorite pretzels from Snack Factory, which I immediately added to my cart.

I customized my order on a Thursday afternoon and once my shopping window closed on Saturday, I received my box first thing the following Tuesday morning. The whole process was extremely easy, and I felt that everything I wanted for my weekly grocery haul was found on the website. The “misshapen” avocados I received were ripe and perfect for making my daily avocado toast and the “too large” apples tasted great and were definitely large but not in a bad way. It was great to know I spent less money on my groceries while helping reduce food waste, something I truly never thought of before.

If you want to take the guess work out of your grocery shopping while also helping the environment, then you should definitely check out Misfits Market. I promise you’ll find all the items you need for a week of delicious healthy meals and snacks that won’t break the bank. Plus, it gets delivered right to your door!
