I’m the last person who should be educating you about the best ways to care for clothing, since I still tend to operate on the College Boy Schedule (meaning, I’ll wear every pair of panties, including all my sheer thongs, to put off doing laundry a couple more days). But according to a new study by Woolite, I’m not alone in my clothing care ignorance. The survey found that, though women do an average of five loads of laundry per week, many still do not know which cycle to wash on or which colors to wash together. The study also found that 30% of women say they spend more time in the laundry room than they do making love and over 30% admitted that they wear their favorite piece of clothing a few too many times before washing it.
Here are some of Woolite’s clothing care tips:
– You can wash your favorite things – everything from that perfect-fitting dress to a flirty summer skirt to a cozy sweater – using Woolite, with the washing machine on gentle cycle. (But be sure to read the instructions on the tag before putting anything in the dryer – Woolite recommends letting most delicate pieces drip dry.)
– Cashmere and wool should be washed inside out, on gentle cycle with cold water. (The chemicals and heat from dry cleaning, they say, can shorten the life of these delicate fabrics.) Let them lie flat to dry.
